An Expert Excerpt
July 19th, 2009
This is an tiny excerpt from a poem I haven’t finished yet. Its the ending of it, but the whole piece isn’t good enough for me to post, unfortunately it still requires a lot of work. I really like where I’m going with this so I was too anxious to wait until I’m done. I promise though that when its all done I’ll post the full thing. Thank you for reading what little is right.
Innocent Young Girl (Unofficially)
By: Crystal Coburn
Innocent young girl
Your future is bright
I believe in you more than you know
Despite all the things
people predict you will be
There’s no telling how far you’ll go
Promise you won’t grow up too fast
And you’ll enjoy the age you are
Because as time goes by
You’ll realize
Life was perfect when it moved slow.
Hey,
Okay, so this is the comment I was going to write. It’s ironic how the comment section of your blog was not working because I actually did not have an outlet for my thoughts, as I was going to do that on here. Nevertheless, they were in my mind, so here goes:
This particular piece, (even thought you say its not complete) really registered with me. As soon as I read it I felt like you put what I have been feeling for the past couple months into 11 lines.
At times, one can be insecure or even not confidant, and I guess not cheer for themselves as much as they should. I guess, at times, a person liek myself can always want more or want to change the way something happened. Possibly I’ve even wished I go back and do something over again. However, after reading this piece, it was like reading words that people who care about me have told me. For instance, believeing in yourself and not to grow up to fast, and even telling me about my own innocence. Well, I realized this summer that this “life WAS perfect when it moved slow.” To me that means that the lessons one needs to learn in their own life happen at absolutely the right time.
Now I don’t know what direction the rest of this peice is going in, but for me so far it helped me put into words an understanding I knew was in my mind.
So thanks for your words and I can’t wait to read the rest,
J
